A Noble Spirit Embiggens the Smallest Man
I wanted to try making my own 8.5×11 notebook for work and finished with a slightly flawed outcome. It may not be perfect, but it has heart. The big lesson here is you can get away with things on a small book that can spoil a large one.
The block made from 11×17 sheets sewn on three tapes, and went together quite well. You can buy these large sheets one at a time from the copy counter at Staples. No need to buy 500 pages.
The fabric is cotton and I shrank it in boiling water before backing it with paste and rice paper. Doing so seems to have prevented a wobble from developing in the pattern as it dried. Some experiments are in order to determine whether the best results come from the direction of fabric shrink running parallel or perpendicular to the paper grain.
Unfortunately, I managed to glue it to the boards slightly crooked. Duh.
Looks pretty good, all in all. Cromulent, even.
